LO at The Iowa State Fair

In a state that boasts University of Iowa grads Ronald Reagan and Del Donahoo, Iowa is also home to one of the largest fairs in the US. The Iowa State Fair is also known for its several foods on a stick (over 36); new choices this year include Pineapple on a Stick and Salad on a Stick.

  • Dubious food item of the day: Hot Beef Sundae. Mashed potatoes, beef with gravy, cheese and a tomato on top.
  • A cow conga line in the Livestock Stadium.
  • Now that's an interesting breed of chicken!
  • Pork Chop on a Stick. It was huge, juicy and delicious.
  • The early crowd begins to gather on the Grand Concourse.
  • Moooooooooooovin'!
  • A baby Miniature Donkey.
  • The Budweiser Clydesdale horses pay a visit to the Iowa State Fair.
  • New to the 2008 Iowa State Fair: Pineapple on a Stick. It's bathed in funnel cake batter, then deep fried and topped with liquified sugar. Decadent and artery clogging.
  • Peach Milkshake & Peach Soda from Bauder's Pharmacy. Their ice cream is world famous and has won several awards. Their soda fountain-style pharmacy hasn't changed since they day it opened.
  • Hey, where's the milk?
