I was disappointed (but not surprised) by the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party's recent endorsements in the upcoming Lakewood City Council at-Large elections.
The endorsement was made by a combination of Lakewood Precinct Captains and Executive Committee members.
The party endorsed an all-white slate of candidates for Lakewood City Council, snubbing the highly qualified Laura Rodriguez-Carbone. The party chooses to ignore the increasingly diverse nature of Lakewood's population, even though the Dems market themselves as the party of tolerance and inclusion.
It's a stunning bit of hypocrisy, given the fact that Democrats rely on minority turnout to win elections in key battleground areas. They are quick to point out the GOP's racism in even-numbered years (and rightfully so). However, when the calendar turns to odd-numbered years, the Dems offer the same tired excuses for exclusion.
Anyone who has met Laura knows that she is extremely smart, compassionate, and fair. She would be a great addition to council.

That's a very old fashioned attitude.

I had thought her mother or grandmother was a white Appalachian american. This should give her a great affinity with a large portion of the remaining white population in cleveland. Nobody smart enough to be a decent mayor wants to be the mayor of Cleveland.
