Last year's grand prize winner. Photo taken this year on the corner of Giel and Merl

Recently we have seen two of our past winners singled out by various groups as "Scariest Places in Ohio" The entire Cannon block between Webb Road and Granger was published as scariest street, and the amazing display at Alameda and Franklin was called scariest house in Northern Ohio. While both of these are well worth the trip to see, their are hundreds of great homes ranging from subtle to over-the-top. With that in mind, we have changed the title of the annual Halloween contest to"

Grand Prize Winner 3 years ago.

Spookywood's Grand Champion Search

We need your help. Not only to help us find homes worth calling out, but also helping us decide the "Grand Champion."

This year we have collected hundreds of dollars in prizes from our local advertisers, and will be handing some of them out leading up to Halloween Night.

If you see a house worthy of calling out for a prize, send it in through the “Question of the Day” feature on our homepage, or in the “Suggestion Box” or through email: production@lakewoodobserver.com.

We will go out and take the photo, and they could possibly be selected for dinner at Woodstock BBQ, India Garden, West End Tavern, or the Root Cafe, on the spot.

Halloween weekend (10.28 - 10.31 midnight) we will open voting for the top twenty decorated homes.

The the top vote earner will receive Grand Champion of Spookywood 2021, and $100 in Gift Certificates.

Past winners are eligible.

To get this started I drove Lakewood, and took photos of the Halloween displays in daytime.

This week we will be going back at night and getting them too.

Good luck to all, and thank you for celebrating fun, families, kids and Halloween in the city we love.

The house on Alameda was described by WEWS Chanel 5 as one of the scariest in Cleveland. This was three years ago when the won.

Here are links to over 1,000 Halloween images from just the past 5 years. We also visit some out of the city.
