The New Lakewood Minute Clinc - Questions

Postby Bill Call » Fri Jan 16, 2015 8:34 am

Will the two other Clinic locations in Lakewood close?
Will there be a facility fee?
Will there be specialists or just RN's?
Will transportation be provided to other medical facilities if needed?
How long will this facility remain open?
Will it close after the dust settles?
Will the City tear down all of those houses on Belle and Marlowe to make way for the "secret" development project?
What will the City lose if we say no to Toby and sue for damages?
Will RTA provide regular bus service to Avon for the 140,000 patients who used Lakewood Hospital?
Should the City of Lakewood establish its own Medicaid Express Service to Avon so Medicaid patients and the uninsured can still have access to medical care?

Too many questions but I can answer some of them.

The Clinic does offer transportation to other clinics, and insurance should pay. Those without
insurance should get on the ACA, which allows for back dating claims 2 months.

It is not a secret development, only by those blind, or are willing to listen to those on
inside say, "There are no plans, they are crazy" Which are the same people that tried
to get me to change my facts, er prediction.

Michael P. Summers has spoke openly at Democratic Club meetings over a year ago how
bad he wants a rec center. When we discussed REC CENTERS ARE LOSERS, the name was
CHANGED TO WELLNESS CENTER, yesterday it was renamed HEALTH CENTER/HEALTHY
LIVING CENTER which would make it easier to raid the Hospital Foundation and get the
$32 million to build his dream, REC CENTER.

For far too long we have had politicians that turn their streets into cul-desacs, stop parking
in front of their home, make it rough on those that question and hammer home their lam
ass ideas even if we cannot afford it. Classic moment of this administration no buses fo
elderly or kids, but buses for drunks and people not living in Lakewood!

Right now, even though the city is happy with our rec department, they are "studying" the
need for recreation. The committee was formed, as they do in Lakewood, to make us
believe "the residents" need a rec center.

The bullshit charades have got to stop.

Jim - I am one of those people who was willing to listen to the administration's message. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, which is why I take people at their word. And yes, this does qualify me as naive.

So, I am absolutely pissed off that our representatives who were very close to this situation were clearly misleading in their statements. I understand the need for our leaders to keep some information out of the public eye, especially when uncomfortable plans are either far in the future or not solidified. I get it. But I feel lied to AND THIS HAS ANGERED MY BLOOD. Angry blood is very uncomfortable.

Seriously though, the public deserves better than to have suspicions either dismissed or shaken off with an "I don't know" shrug.

And if indeed they did not know, then God help us.

We already have a "rec center". It's called the YMCA, to say nothing of the vast array of other workout facilities (cross-fit, ride+workout, curves, etc.). Or is it going to be more like a tax-subsidized spa for people with actual free time?

When do we get to vote on this?

You don't. the decision is already made. There will be a dog and pony show at the end of the month where administration officials will tell you that exchanging a hospital for a minute clinic is a great idea. They will try not to look at their phones while people are speaking and be real glad when its all over.

The Clinic facility in Brunswick is nearly 100,000 square feet of space with a full range of doctors and specialists

http://my.clevelandclinic.org/locations ... pecialties

The proposed Lakewood center will be much smaller with a very narrow range of family practitioners.

Since I am a conspiracy theorists :D

Every new Clinic facility was announced years in advance with great fanfare. The facility in Lakewood was cobbled together at the last minute as an after thought. I don't think they ever intended to have something in Lakewood. I think they are building this temporary structure to keep people quiet. Don't expect it to be here long.

And remember, a large percentage of the business for the Clinics Avon facility will come from people who once went to Lakewood. It can't survive without that business. Like I said, don't expect the Clinic to leave anything in Lakewood for long.

I looked at a lot of different articles about the Cleveland Clinic expansions into other cities. I haven't found one case where the host city was asked to promise to fight the expansion of other health care providers in their city. What's up with that? They deliberately destroy the hospital and then want guarantees that we won't let in any competitors? For some reason our elected officials think it's a great deal.

I don't like long posts but one more item:

What kind of commercial expansion do they think will work? There are empty office buildings all around Cuyahoga County. There is empty retail space all around town. What's left?

How is Lakewood going to compete with $1 billion in subsidies for downtown development?

The City should decline the Clinics offer and initiate a lawsuit for breach of contract. Let's get Clinic officials under oath to tell us what they knew and when they knew it.

What do we have to lose, a minute clinic?

Jim,

Because I have a children and therefore a stake in the game - is there really talk of a Rec Center - as in basketball hoops, exercise equipment, baseball field, track, etc?

Or is this a spin you are putting on this situation?

Corey,
Of course it is his spin to deflect any attention away from his benefactors.

How will we afford a rec center, we won't even be able to pay our cops or firefighters?

COREY

Bill is shooting blanks yet again.

One more time from the top. Mayor Summers and Dru Siley presented to the Lakewood
Board of Education a plan for a Rec Center, built on Hospital Property, and wanted the
schools to back them on a Levy/Bond issue. Feb. 14th meeting at Horace Mann.

This is where Matt Markling got wind of it for his prediction.

I have zero reason to speak untruth here, about this.

From that moment it morphed into Wellness Center, and presented as Health Center at
yesterday's conference, so that the LHF money can be used. Read the pdf, it is all spelled
out there in their words in black and white. You do not have to believe me.

Jim,

Thanks for the response.

Would this be a Board of Education/Recreation run Rec Center, city run, or privately owned?

Corey

Corey

It is my understanding those would be the centerpiece in a City Hall run rec center.

The ONLY reason the schools were told, was Mayor Summers was hoping for the blessing of
the School Board for the Tax Increase. City Hall does not want Lakewood Schools to run
recreation, well for at least the last 2.5 years. Hmmmmmmm where have I heard that
time frame before?

From the 2/18/ meeting of the School Board
Ms. Petrie Barcelona moved and Mr. Favre seconded the motion to move to two Executive Sessions (1) for the consideration of the purchase or sale of property at competitive bidding, if premature disclosure or information would give an unfair competitive or bargaining advantage to a person whose personal, private interest is adverse to the general public interest and (2) preparing for, conducting, or reviewing negotiations or bargaining sessions with public employees concerning their compensation or other terms and conditions of employment.
Upon roll call on the motion, the vote was as follows:
Ms. Beebe – Yea
Ms. Petrie Barcelona – Yea
Mr. Favre – Yea
Mrs. Shaughnessy – Yea
The motion passed.
The Board recessed to the First Executive Session at 8:09 p.m.
The Board returned to Open Session at 8:28 p.m.
Mayor Mike Summers addressed the Board of Education and laid out his vision for
Lakewood and how it potentially impacts recreation needs in the future. In addition,
Mr. Dru Siley from the City of Lakewood was also present. The Board and Mayor Summers
engaged in general discussion regarding repairs to Foster Pool, additional park property, the possibility of a new recreation center and a property tax increase.

The Board re-entered Executive Session at 9:25 p.m.
The Second Executive Session ended at 9:45 p.m.
