Chapel Drama Club Performance: It's Our Town, Too! and Tracks
1:00 PM
“Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player, That struts and frets his hour upon the stage, And then is heard no more.”― William Shakespeare, Macbeth
Tapping into the deep theatrical roots of Lakewood, Our Chapel Drama Club transforms Lawther Hall into its own Black Box theater. The stage fills with shifting shadows through two introspective plays that ask us to question our part in this life and what happens after our time on the stage has ended. The 2 one-act plays, It’s Our Town, Too! By Susan Miller and Tracks by Peter Tarsi are performed in a stripped back set with minimal props, costume, light, and sound to allow the focus to be placed solely upon the actors, their characterization, and the underlying human relationships.
It's Our Town, Too! By Susan Miller, first performed in 1992 in Los Angeles, CA, is a modern homage to Wilder's classic play. Homophobia, fear, and death still persist, but do not completely overcome in this witty and nostalgic exploration of love, loss, grief, commitment, and friendship as seen through the course of everyday life.
Tracks by Peter Tarsi, takes on the idea of the afterlife with themes similar to those in No Exit by Sarte and The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis. In a stripped-down subway station, ten strangers contemplate what it means to live a life worth ending up on the “right side of the tracks.”
Performances are free and open to the public, with the opportunity to make a good-will donation to support the program. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.com, through our Facebook events, and through the events calendar of Lakewoodpresbyterian.org!
