Lakewood City Employees Donate To Lakewood Community Service Center
The City of Lakewood Public Works and Administration employees once again participated in the 2018 Light Up Lakewood event. Our city's employees are represented by local 1043 of AFSCME (American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.) For the second straight year, Lakewood's finest volunteered and braved the rains to supply the Light Up Lakewood folks free hot chocolate.
Without soliciting donations for the steamy brew, the AFSCME members collected $200 in donations from the generous Lakewood party-goers. The AFSCME members matched the $200 and presented a check for $400 to the Lakewood Community Service Center.
The LCSC provides basic needs assistance and personalized resource and referral services with the goal of empowering each individual to move toward greater self-sufficiency. This awesome organization offers a comprehensive menu of supportive services including community meals, homelessness prevention, mental/behavioral health services and an emergency food pantry.
Thanks to all of the city employees who gave their time and effort to participate in this annual Lakewood event. Special thanks to Brian O'Boyle who is a member of the Parks Department, not only did he do most of the organization for the hot chocolate give-away, but he donated much time and effort to make it a success.
