Islamic Scholar To Speak At Lakewood Public Library
Who am I? What is the purpose of my life? Where have I come from and where am I going? The search for answers to these questions is as old as mankind itself. For Dr. Zeki Saritoprak, Islamic spirituality provides guidance on the most fundamental questions of life and can help bring harmony and tranquility to modern society.
Dr. Saritoprak will bring his vast knowledge of Islamic spirituality to the Main Library Auditorium on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. This John Carroll University professor will discuss the major themes in his recently published book, “Islamic Spirituality: Theology and Practice for the Modern World,” and elaborate on the ways in which everyone can benefit from the inward looking spiritual practices of Islam in our fast paced world.
In his book, Dr. Saritoprak discusses theologians, both medieval and contemporary, who have greatly influenced Islamic spiritual tradition. He also brings Islamic theology into the modern world by discussing how it affects contemporary ideas, such as the environment, interfaith dialogue and humans' search for deeper meaning in their lives. A native of Turkey, Dr. Saritoprak is Professor in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies and Director of the Nursi Chair in Islamic Studies at John Carroll University. He has spent more than thirty years studying Islamic theology and mysticism and is the author of many works on Islam, spirituality, and interfaith dialogue.
Join Dr. Saritoprak at the Lakewood Public Library on November 1 for an enlightening discussion of spirituality and contemporary thought.
