Trips To Cleveland Cultural Events

Great news, music lovers! The Lakewood Division of Aging will once again be providing transportation to selected fall, winter and spring cultural events. We will be attending matinee performances of the Cleveland Orchestra, as well as the highly regarded Trinity Cathedral Brownbag Concerts.

Beginning in October, we will be attending monthly Cleveland Orchestra Matinee Concerts. On Friday, October 19, 2018, we will enjoy a performance of the Overture to the School for Scandal, by Samuel Barber, and Scheherazade by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. We depart from the Lawther Center at 9:00 AM, arriving at Severance Hall by 9:45 AM, just in time for a continental breakfast.  Following the breakfast, there is an excellent pre-concert talk by one of the orchestra’s educators, highlighting and illuminating the morning’s concert. The performance begins at 11:00 AM, ending at 12:00 PM. Concert tickets can be reserved through the Lakewood Division of Aging. The price is $27.00 with a suggested donation of $3 for transportation. The seats on the bus fill fast, so do not delay.

Beginning in October, the Division of Aging will also be providing transportation to the Brown Bag Concert Series at Trinity Cathedral. This well-loved Cleveland tradition offers a variety of musical genres in a beautiful setting, all while enjoying lunch. The October 17th concert will be “A Tribute to Julie Andrews,” featuring soprano, Kristine Caswelch. These 12:00 PM concerts are free, although a freewill offering will be gratefully accepted. Choose what you would like to do for lunch: pre-order a box lunch from the Division of Aging, bring something from home, or purchase a box lunch from Trinity for $7. Stop by the Lawther Center, 16024 Madison Ave. to complete a reservation form to reserve your seat on the bus. The suggested donation for transportation is $3.

Both Severance Hall and Trinity Cathedral are handicap accessible. The Cleveland Orchestra Matinee concerts and the Trinity Brownbag concerts will be continuing through May 2019. Please call the Lakewood Division of Aging Activities office at 216-529-5005 for more information on these or other programs.
