Gone To The Dogs

A beginner reader cuddles up with a therapy dog.

Lakewood Public Library hasn’t gone to the dogs, they are coming to us on Saturday, December 10, 2016. Every second Saturday of the month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. school-age children may enjoy reading books to a few four-legged friends at Tail Waggin’ Tutors, a literacy program for beginner readers to bone up on their reading skills by sharing a book or two with therapy dogs certified through Therapy Dogs International.

Tail Waggin’ Tutors is designed for children ages 7 to 12, but younger readers are welcome to attend when accompanied by an adult. This program is ideal for students who may be self conscious about reading aloud. Children practice their reading skills in a relaxed, “dog-friendly” atmosphere.

No registration is required for this program. Stop by the Main Library Multipurpose Room in Children’s and Youth Services and select from a collection of dog-themed books or students may bring their own books to snuggle up and read to one of the cuddly canines. Mark your calendar for the following upcoming Saturdays: December 10, 2016 and January 14, February 11, and March 11, 2017.
