Author Event - "My Life, My Letters & My Loves: Exploring an Ordinary Life" by Alida Henriette Struze

Describing the life of 94-year-old Alida Henriette Struze, this book contains 65 Christmas letters. Each letter provides a peek into Alida’s life, as well as a snapshot of history, especially of Cleveland and Lakewood. She also shares a forbidden romance. Joseph Meissner, a Cleveland-based attorney, will introduce Ms. Struze. Books will be available for sale and signing at the event.

Charter fishing boat captain Humphrey Bogart and inebriated sidekick Walter Brennan dock on Vichy-controlled Martinique with a job of transporting a Free French resistance leader and his wife. Bogart and lounge singer Lauren Bacall begin a romance. While headed back to port, Bogart’s vessel takes fire from a patrol cruiser. The police ply Brennan with drinks. Does loyalty succumb to liquor?

Lakewood Historical Society - East Fourth Street: The Rise, Decline, and Rebirth of an Urban Cleveland Street

Once home to Cleveland’s finest theater, two major food markets and numerous five-and-dime stores, 4th Street fell into disrepair. Yet, this historic thoroughfare found new life and today is the coolest place in Cleveland. Speaker Alan Dutka is the author of several books on the most colorful neighborhoods of Cleveland’s past.

Bob Roberts (Tim Robbins) is a conservative Republican candidate for the U. S. Senate, running against incumbent Democrat Brickley Paiste (Gore Vidal). Tim Robbins not only plays the title character, but also wrote and directed the film. Terry Meehan continues his series on political movies, introducing each film with original documentaries, followed by audience reaction and a lively discussion.
