Birdtown 10K Walk Announced

The Valley Vagabonds, a walking club affiliated with the American Volksport Association, is sponsoring a 10K walk through historic Birdtown and Detroit Ave. August 6, 2016. Participants can register between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the Madison Branch Library, located at 13229 Madison Avenue. Finish time is 3 p.m. Ample parking is available nearby. This walk qualifies for the following AVA Special Programs: Walk the USA, Animal Safari, Lakes and Reservoirs.

Water is available at the starting point and at the manned checkpoint. Restrooms are available at the start and at the checkpoint. Participants will receive a written description of points of interest along the walk route. Enjoy the shady streets as you discover a community from yesteryear: a place where residents could have all of their needs met within walking distance of their homes. The route also guides the participant through the annual Lakewood Arts Festival.

All participants must sign a waiver and complete, sign and carry a start card as required by AVA. All cards must be turned in at finish.

Come, walk, enjoy the art and make Lakewood your one day vacation.

There are a limited number of awards for those participating and completing the walk.
