The Return Of The Scarecrows To Madison Ave.

Express yourself and get your creativity on! Lakewood Kiwanis and Uptown Lakewood are conducting the Third Annual Lakewood Scarecrow Festival beginning Friday, October 9 through Sunday, October 25, 2015. Scarecrows will line Madison Avenue from W 117th to Riverside Drive. This is a fun opportunity for individuals, families, businesses, clubs and organizations to get involved and build their own scarecrows. Last year, PTAs, Girl Scout Troops, businesses, and neighbors took advantage of this fun project making Madison Avenue a lively destination.

You can pick up your weighted portable base on Saturday, October 3rd 8 a.m. to noon at the Buckeye Beer Engine, 15315 Madison Avenue. There will be silly props available to put the finishing touches on your unique scarecrow. You are welcome to donate items for others to use on their creation.

As an exciting kick-off, Mayor Summers will be declaring all of the scarecrows honorary citizens on Friday, October 9th at 6:30 at the Buckeye Beer Engine. Please plan on joining us at the Honorary Citizenship Ceremony. The Scarecrows will take their place of honor from October 9 through October 26, 2015.

Judges will be awarding for Best of Show; Best Entry by a Community Organization; Best Entry by a Business; Best Entry by a School; Scariest and Most Creative! The final award will be the People’s Choice, where visitors to the Scarecrow Festival can cast their vote. People’s Choice ballot boxes will be at the Lakewood Hardware- 16608 Madison; Buckeye Beer Engine- 15315 Madison Ave.; Great Finds- 15220 Madison; Cottage of Flowers- 14519 Madison Ave.; Angelo’s Pizza- 13715 Madison Ave.; Griffin Cider Works- 12401 Madison. Corporate Sponsorship is available for $100 which entitles sponsors to be recognized on the window flyer and in local papers paper and they are encouraged to enter a scarecrow of their own creation.
