A New Candidate For Ohio's 9th Congressional District

In the spring of 2012 my wife and I moved to Lakewood after having lived downtown for the last several years. At the time we moved I was awaiting my bar exam results and I was unemployed. I felt like I had no purpose. I felt unwanted. Lucky for me, I got a community organizing job with the AFL-CIO after only a couple of months of being unemployed. But, on my rides down Detroit on the RTA I met many residents of Lakewood who weren’t quite so lucky. Some folks were young recent graduates like me. Others were in their early 60’s and had worked their whole lives and dreaded the prospect of their unemployment insurance ending. All they wanted was a job but nobody would give them a chance.

Contrary to what Speaker Boehner has to say, the overwhelming majority of unemployed workers just want an opportunity to contribute to their society. And, that is why I felt compelled to enter the race for Ohio’s 9th Congressional District as an Independent, Write-In Candidate. Macroeconomists have known since the 1930’s that Congress can always pass a budget that results in Full Employment but they refuse to do so. They allow our labor markets to permanently remain in disequilibrium with an oversupply of desperate unemployed workers which drags down the wages for Working Americans as well. And, Lakewood’s current representative from Toledo, Marcy Kaptur, despite being an honorable public servant, has been complicit in this disaster.

For example, on April 22nd at the BGSU Firelands Community Forum on Workforce Development and Education in my home town of Huron, Ohio, Ms. Kaptur was asked what Congress could do to spur job creation in our district. She declared that ideas for job creation do not come from the Federal Government, despite the fact that Congress can always pass a budget that generates full employment. Instead, she suggested the old “beggar they neighbor” fallacy and encouraged local leaders to “market our strengths.”

The working families and the unemployed citizens of Lakewood deserve a representative who knows this area and who will fight for Full Employment. If you’re interested being represented by somebody who has actual roots in the area, a New Candidate with New Ideas for returning our economy back to its potential, I hope you’ll take the time to find out more about me and what I stand for at CoryHoffmanForCongress.com
