The Scarecrows Are Coming!

Get your creativity on! Lakewood Kiwanis along with Uptown Lakewood are conducting the Scarecrow Festival from October 10th through October 26th. This year the plan is to have scarecrows on Madison Avenue from Highland Avenue (W. 117th St.) all the way to Riverside Drive. This is a fun opportunity for individuals, families, businesses and clubs to get involved and build their own scarecrows.

Registration is $25 with proceeds shared by The Kiwanis Club of Lakewood and Uptown Lakewood. One-hundred percent of the proceeds received by the Lakewood Kiwanis will go to support Kiwanis International's Project Eliminate, a global campaign to end maternal and neonatal tetanus. Visit www.lakewoodkiwanis.com to download your registration application. Scarecrows need to be registered by October 4th. Corporate sponsorship is available for $100.

You can pick up your weighted, portable base on Saturday, October 4th from 8 a.m. to noon at the Buckeye Beer Engine, 15315 Madison Avenue. Silly props will be available for you to put finishing touches on your unique scarecrow. You are welcome to bring items to share with others.

As an exciting kick-off, Mayor Summers will be present to declare all scarecrows honorary citizens on the evening of October 8th at 6:30 p.m. at the Buckeye Beer Engine. The Scarecrows will then take their place of honor along Madison on October 10th. There will be awards for Best of Show; Best Entry by a Community Organization; Best Entry by a School; Scariest; and Most Creative. Ballot boxes will be at The Buckeye Beer Engine, Cottage of Flowers - 14519 Madison Ave., Lakewood Division of Aging - 16024 Madison Ave., and Spin - 14515 Madison Ave. Awards & bragging rights will be presented on Monday, October 27th at 7 p.m. at the Buckeye Beer Engine.

Make plans to stroll Madison during these two weeks to meet our newest residents up close. The Festival will have everyone thoroughly charmed again this year.
