Chance To Win A Schreckengost Masterpiece

"The Gift," 1940s

The Lakewood Rangers Education Foundation is offering the public a chance to win one of two Viktor Schreckengost watercolor masterpieces for just $25…all to benefit the "Save the Schreckengosts" Campaign!

"The Gift" was painted by Viktor during or immediately following World War II. It sat hidden in his attic behind a stack of empty frames until it was discovered in June 2005. The painting of Calla lillies is one of 40 watercolors found in the attic. Most of the works depict images of the war devastation in Europe and a pilot’s perspective from the clouds. This painting was donated to the Foundation by Viktor’s widow, Gene Schreckengost.

The second, "Entrance to the City," was part of a fourteen-watercolor series Viktor painted of notable buildings for a 1980 Cleveland calendar. This artist proof, signed twice by Viktor, depicts the Lake Erie lighthouse at the mouth of the Cuyahoga River. The painting was donated by Ron Rickard.

Chances to win one of the two paintings are $25 each. They may be purchased at the Lakewood Rangers Education Foundation online store at www.lakewoodrangers.org, by phone at 216.529.4033, or by mail at 14100 Franklin Blvd., Lakewood, OH 44107. The drawing will take place on December 31, 2014.

All proceeds from the drawing will benefit the protection and restoration of two Schreckengost sculptures at Lakewood High School, "Early Settler" on the Civic Auditorium and the Lake Erie bas relief in the L Room.

Since 1984, the Lakewood Rangers Education Foundation has distributed more than $3 million in funding for classroom grants, student scholarships, and school initiatives.
