Hen Hopefuls: The McElhatten Woodward Family

Cook Ave residents and Hen Hopefuls, Pete Woodward and Brandi McElhatten Woodward with their daughter.

Happy Spring from the Hens in Lakewood Committee! In this installment we are highlighting another Lakewood family who are interested in responsibly raising hens in Lakewood. Meet Brandi McElhatten and Pete Woodward and learn their point of view on this popular issue.

What street do you live on? Cook Ave.

How long have you lived in Lakewood? Since 2005.

Why do you choose to live in Lakewood? We love how vibrant and diverse the neighborhood is. We love that it's a walking community and that you can walk to so many great places. I love the parks, the shops, the restaurants, the library...we could go on and on. We rem really glad that we have the opportunity to raise our little girl in this community.

Why do you want to raise hens in Lakewood? We garden and grow our own veggies. I [Brandi] also volunteer with LEAF, the for City Fresh. We really would relish the opportunity to be able to have our own hens so we know where our eggs are coming from. We like that we would be able to raise and care for the chickens that provide us with those eggs.

Why do you think Lakewood is a community that should allow responsible hen-keeping? Lakewood is such a progressive community, we really think it would be very unfortunate if they didn't allow responsible hen keeping. If Tremont can handle it, so can Lakewood.

Do you want to mention anything else?  Thank you for your hard work!
