Love Your Library? Then You're Invited!

For nearly a hundred years, Lakewood residents have enriched their lives with the many educational and cultural benefits of the Lakewood Public Library. Thousands of books, millions of songs, movies, magazines, concerts, lectures and forums crowd the Main Library and the Madison Branch. To ensure that the community retains robust access to these riches—even as the nature of its resources continue to change and grow—the Lakewood Public Library Foundation was formed.

Have you seen the works of the Lakewood Library Foundation? From the bronze shell and glistening tines of Peter Diepenbrock’s sculpture Transversion on the northwest lawn, to the majestic Richard Haas murals flanking the Grand Reading Room, visible signs of the Foundation’s work are not easy to overlook. But the influence of the Foundation on Lakewood runs far deeper. It was the determination of the Foundation that first brought public computers and high-speed Internet to the Library’s patrons. The Foundation’s support made Lakewood Public Library a pioneer and a leader in connected library services. Free PSAT and ACT prep programs sponsored by the Foundation made the difference for scores of Lakewood’s young people who went on to brighter futures, winning scholarships and getting into better schools. Supporting the tireless and creative Children’s Services in the form of author events and programming is a Foundation favorite. The Lakewood Library Foundation is also responsible for bringing world-renowned artists and best-selling authors to our fair city.

We each have our own reasons for “Loving our Library.” Maybe it’s that great book you read and can’t stop thinking about, or your child has learned to love reading because of the “Family Weekend Wonders” series, or better yet, your teen could not put down the book recommended by the Children’s Services librarian. Maybe it was the Sunday music that spoke to you or watching that old favorite movie in the library auditorium; for many it is just a quiet spot to think or the ability to connect to the outside world through use of the public computers. One thing is certain: our Lakewood Public Library speaks to its 50,000+ Lakewood residents and many outside visitors in different ways—all important to each individual. This is why the Foundation continues its mission to raise the financial resources necessary to ensure financial support is available to the library, in order to continue its mission to serve the Lakewood community. So…if you “Love your Library” and have a little or a lot of time to share:
