Civil War 150: Exploring The War And Its Meaning Through The Words Of Those Who Lived It

Lakewood Public Library will soon host Civil War 150: Exploring the War and Its Meaning through the Words of Those Who Lived It, a national programming initiative. A traveling paneled exhibition will be on display February 25 through March 18 in the Main Library Second Floor Gallery. As part of the initiative, the Library will also present a series of public programs exploring the impact and contested meanings of the American Civil War.

Civil War 150 is a national traveling panel exhibition organized by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History in partnership with The Library of America. The project, Civil War 150: Exploring the War and Its Meaning through the Words of Those Who Lived It, has been made possible in part through a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities: Exploring the Human Endeavor.

The official opening of Civil War 150 will be Wednesday, February 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the Grand Reading Room. Women in History present a dramatic re-creation of Elizabeth Van Lew and Mary Elizabeth Bowser, two female spies during the Civil War.
