Innovative Handmade Jewelry Event Pops-Up in Lakewood
A new alternative to craft fairs, art shows, and gallery exhibitions is popping up in Lakewood. Inspired by the abundance of talented jewelry designers in the Cleveland area and the public's love for unique, handmade pieces of wearable art, the Pinned & Pined For event is the jewelry hound's dream come true. Forty jewelry-makers (in a wide range of styles, materials, and techniques) will present their work at this four-day show, which kicks off with an opening reception party on Thursday, October 18th.
"This show is different, somewhere between a trunk show and an art fair. The jewelers don't need to worry about having a ton of work to show and a ton of display equipment to lug. They can show fresh, new work. Patrons will love the simple display, the variety of price points and styles, and the central checkout instead of purchasing from each artist separately," said Kathy Patton, organizer of the event and Market Organizer for Cleveland Handmade Markets.
"I'm excited to host Pinned & Pined For! There will be something for everyone. Some artists are Etsy or art fair veterans, some just graduated from jewelry programs, and some are even jewelry professors themselves," said Teresa Crompton, co-owner of Dovecote, a space in the Screw Factory Artists Studios at the Lake Erie Building.
"To participate in the show, each artist purchased wall display space by the square foot. All of that money is going to advertising and producing the show. We'll get attention from the ads that we would not be able to afford without teamwork," said Valerie Tyler, one of the jewelry artists and a local art blogger.
At present, the participating artists are: Summer Aims, Susan Base, Susie Bedell, Nicole Bloch, Barbara Bloom, Marjorie Burkhart, Mindi Burton, Sofia Calderwood, Brittany Charek, Teresa Crompton, Debra Csikos-Vandrasik, Jamie Dicus, Denise Donaldson, Angela Elpers, Amanda Gonzalez, Josie Graff, Erika Hansen, Anne Holman, Erica Hoosic, Rachel Jernigan, Christal Keener, Pavia Lewis, Cindy Markle, Beth Martin, Ana Molnar, Linda Moore, Pam Nickle, Kathy Patton, Lori Paximadis, Kristin Perkins, Maryann Posch, Debra Romaniv, Amy Ropes, Mala Shah, Eva Sherman, Sherry Simms, Jennifer Szalkowski, Allison Theken, Valerie Tyler, Jennifer Worden, and Tracie Zamiska.
The exhibit runs from Thursday, October 18th through Sunday, October 21st. Hours on Thursday and Friday are 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Hours on Saturday and Sunday are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or by appointment. The event is at Dovecote Work/Display, 13000 Athens Avenue.
Started in November 2008, Cleveland Handmade Markets are an ongoing series of art and craft sales which feature only handmade art, goods, and edibles. Cleveland Handmade Markets are committed to showcasing creative entrepreneurs and contributing to the local economy while also partnering with community groups and local non-profit organizations to help them raise funds and awareness for their causes.
Dovecote is the work and display space of Cleveland artists Sarah E. Darby, Teresa Crompton and Kathy Patton. On the edge of the historic Lakewood neighborhood Birdtown, Dovecote makes its home in the Lake Erie Building Screw Factory Studios at Templar Industrial Park. A small, dedicated gallery in the studio allows the artists to display their own work and invite other artists to do the same.
