Laskey CPA Buys Revelations Building On Detroit

Laskey CPA, a public accounting firm with nine employees, has purchased the property at 15514 Detroit Avenue that formerly housed Revelations Salon & Spa. Timothy P. Laskey paid $250,000 for the property and plans to invest about $50,000 renovating the duplex before moving into the building in May 2012.

"This will be a great location for us," said Laskey. "It will give us room to hire additional employees in the future. There is a lot of investment being made in Lakewood, and we're excited to be moving into an area with positive growth and development."

Laskey CPA will change its name to Laskey Costello at the time of the move to reflect the addition of Cindy Costello, Laskey's youngest daughter and a CPA, as a partner in the firm. Laskey CPA provides accounting services to businesses and nonprofits, estate planning and individual income tax preparation.

Laskey sold his building on Madison Avenue to Stone's Throw Properties LLC for Lakewood attorney Maria L. Shinn in December 2011 for $158,000. Shinn specializes in probate and estate administration, elder law and services to non-traditional families. Like Laskey, Shinn wanted more space to grow her law practice.

"I'm very committed to Lakewood and am looking forward to moving into Bird Town," Shinn said. "This move is a great opportunity for me to further develop my practice."

"Maria Shinn, Laskey CPA and Revelations all chose to stay in Lakewood, and all are making a big bet on their future. Each business owner is investing in their vision, and I couldn't be more pleased to have them here."

Summers predicts the next ten years will be breakout years for the city. Statistics show that Lakewood's average age is 36, four years younger than the county's average. The city also has a higher percentage of college graduates and is ideally located for businesses with easy access to the airport, downtown and major highways.
