The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

It’s that time of year the tinsel, lights, gifts and holiday parties so instead of tensing up as you read this embrace it by reclaiming what the holidays are all about. Holidays have lost their true meaning over the years and in the age we live today it’s time to get back to a simpler way of life. Instead of running to the mall to begin your holiday season take some time to plan a family outing that will create memories to last a lifetime. Take advantage of the community that Newsweek called “the best place to raise your children” a place clevelandnites voted as the “best suburb to raise children”.This Holiday season take advantage of all Lakewood has to offer.

Take a stroll down Detroit Road to enjoy the sights and sounds of the holidays. Join your neighbors this December 4th for “Light up Lakewood” a community kick off for the holiday season. Patron your local stores to find that perfect unique gift for the loved ones in your life. Dine at one of Lakewood’s fine establishments and give back to the community that has given you so much. Isn’t that what the holidays are all about?

Catch everyone’s favorite holiday movie Polar Express at Lakewood High School’s special “Dive in Movie” event December 3rd. Who says you can’t enjoy all the luxuries of pool time in the winter. View Polar Express with family and friends while floating in the pool, inner tubes and noodles are available to rent to make your viewing experience more pleasurable. Or watch from the sidelines of the pool bleachers. Either way it’s a twist on watching your favorite holiday movie that is sure to create a splash.

And just when you think you’ve seen or experienced it all join the Lakewood YMCA on December 19th for “Swim with Santa”. Not your ordinary Christmas experience but would you expect anything less from Lakewood, not to mention what a fun Christmas card that would make.

You know the saying if you cant beat’m then join’m. There is no doubt winter is slowly creeping up on us and so is the cold. So why not embrace it by dusting off those ice skates and skating down memory lane to the Winterhurst Ice Rink on Lakeshore Boulevard. What better way to celebrate the holidays than a romantic date night with the one you love, if anything it’s sure to bring you some laughs. Even better bundle up and head down to Lakewood park to take in the picturesque winter views. Channel the child in you and make a snowman or even a snow angel.

If that isn’t your idea of a date night then support our community's up and coming stars at the Beck Center for a night at the theatre. Join Beck’s Dance Department for the holiday classic The Nutcracker and the theatres performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. It beats fighting the downtown holiday traffic and is easy on the pocketbook.

See the holidays are more than being bogged down with running ramped back and forth to the mall. This year celebrate the holidays filled with family surrounded by friends at home…in Lakewood.
