Recovery Resources Partners With LGBT Center
Recovery Resources is pleased to announce a partnership with the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Community Center of Greater Cleveland. The two organizations will be working together on Project Reach Out (PRO), a discussion-based education program to assist LGBTQ individuals and their loved ones in making informed decisions regarding alcohol and other drug use.
“We look forward to providing vital addiction information and education to the LGBT community in partnership with Recovery Resources,” Jan Cline, executive director of the LGBT Center, said.
Approximately 30 percent of both the lesbian and gay male populations have problems with alcohol, and substantially higher proportions of lesbian and gay people use marijuana or cocaine than is the case in the general population, according to a report from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
The primary focus of PRO is to foster insightful discussion on the role of addiction within the LGBTQ community and to support members in identifying a broad range of solutions to problems. Weekly sessions beginning Sept. 13 will be held at the LGBT Center at 6600 Detroit Ave., Cleveland, OH 44102. There will be separate teen and adult-focused discussions. Everyone is welcome.
