Colin Update 11/7/08

Colin in the spider cage

Colin got pulled out of school today for PT. Sarah was working with him today and she had to rearrange the schedule. But, PT was interesting. She strapped Colin into a “spider cage” to help him stand. And he did sort of look like he was caught in a spider’s web! She helped him work his quad muscles by doing squats. He tried marching but that was too hard.

He spent an hour in OT doing visual discriminatory tests. I thought I was going to go cross-eyed! He looked at picture similarities, then differences, and then he had to find an image within an image. He did well; only missing a few. Unfortunately he didn’t finish the test. He has one more section to do on Monday.

I made Colin mad during speech today. I think he was tired after PT and OT. He was real giddy and became uncooperative with Lisa. I finally left thinking that I was the distraction. That only made it worse. He then pouted and didn’t want to do anything. He stayed angry through lunch, but came back from group much happier. Thank Goodness!

Grandma Judy visited this afternoon. She taught Colin how to play backgammon. Then we took Colin “out to dinner” - we rolled him up to the cafeteria and ate there. It was a nice restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. I think we’ll be visiting the establishment again sometime.

Ms. Steidel stopped by again. And just like a teacher she brought some things to help Colin with his homework: gum and suckers! Oh, and she did bring him a book, too. I think it is about Colin – it’s about sticky feet!

Colin spent an hour this evening in a stander. This is part of his therapy that we can do at any time of the day. Naomi would like him to build his endurance by standing in it for an hour at a time, once or twice a day. Grandma Pat came to visit while Colin was in it and liked how nicely the machine raised and lowered his body. I think she would like one to help her off the floor when she’s playing with Colin’s little brother, Kevin.
