Colin Teets Update 11/3/08

Colin initiated movement in his right leg today.  In PT, Naomi had Colin walking on his knees, and he moved his right leg forward and back.  This is movement that wasn’t present before.  It’s amazing how the little things become so exciting. In SLT, speech and language therapy, Colin did a great job sipping and swallowing water.  Lisa is going to order another swallowing test to see if he is ready for thin liquids.  Colin would love that.  He does not like the thickener that has to be added to all his drinks.  He also has some interesting new homework (or would you call it roomwork, since he doesn’t go home?).  He is to chew gum two or three times a day and try to blow bubbles.  This is to strengthen his muscles in his tongue and on the right side of his jaw.  Grandma Pat came and watched a movie with Colin tonight while I went to class.  He still gets sad when I leave – even when I tell him I’ll be back when class is over.  He did enjoy the company of Sabrin, her sister, and her mom tonight.  They gave him a new version of the game Trouble, called, BIG Trouble.  We’ll have to try this out tomorrow.  I’m still going to watch Colin closely – he likes to cheat!Schedule week of 11/1: For those that have inquired about visiting Colin during the week, his open times are as follows: Mon. 12-1, 2-4, 4:30-8; Tues. 10-11, 12-2, 3-8; Wed. 12-1, 3-8; Thurs. 12-2, 3-8; Fri. 12-1, 2-8
