Markling Only FOP Endorsed Lakewood School Board Candidate
Matthew John Markling is the only Lakewood School Board candidate to be endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police, Western Cuyahoga Lodge #25.
On October 8, 2007, the Fraternal Order of Police, Western Cuyahoga Lodge #25, endorsed one candidate, Matthew John Markling, for the Lakewood School Board. Markling is running on a platform of academic excellence, school safety, and leadership.
In a letter thanking the organization for its endorsement, Markling said, “It is truly an honor and a privilege to receive your endorsement. The FOP is a key stakeholder in the Lakewood City Schools. Your members serve as essential role models and resources for our children.”
Markling goes on to promise that, “As a school board member, I will ensure that the Lakewood City Schools continue to educate students on the importance of student civility and respect for authority.”
Markling states, “I believe that a positive relationship between students and police officers serves as a deterrent to underage drinking, as well as other criminal activities. Therefore, as a school board member, I will ensure that the Lakewood City Schools continue to support DARE and School Resource Officer programming.”
Markling finally promises that, “As a school board member, I will ensure that the Lakewood City Schools work cooperatively with the Lakewood Police Department to protect the safety of staff and students.”
The FOP 25 does not offer or advertise its endorsement. Candidates must seek it by formal request and then complete a lengthy questionnaire and interview process.
