CCLAS "Hair of the Dog" Fundraiser 5/18/17

CCLAS held its 13th annual "Hair of the Dog" Happy Hour and Silent Auction at Around the Corner. The event raised funds to help homeless animals of Lakewood. This year's event was the biggest and best yet, thanks to dozens of donors and volunteers.


Over $10,000 was raised to provide medical care for shelter residents, and to help with equipment and other shelter costs.

  • The event included a Chinese raffle for prize baskets...here is one of the lucky winners!

  • CCLAS President Kira Kittoe-Krivosh gave a short speech about CCLAS mission, and later emceed the raffle announcements.

  • Winning numbers for the Chinese raffle were drawn from the magic paper bag....the rolling drum is reserved for the grand prize raffle.

  • The Chinese raffle was followed by a grand prize raffle for this beautiful $2000 necklace, donated by Marlen's Jewelers.

  • After the auction closed, volunteers collect the names of all the high bidders.

    The Cavs donated, as did many other local sports teams.

  • St. Edward HS and basketball coach Eric Flannery donated a spirit basket.

  • Cleveland Gladiators provided a fun package.

  • Cleveland State Athletics also provided a nice gift assortment.

  • Here's a nice Lakewood-themed basket, including items from the Lakewood Rangers Education Foundation.  

  • Donations even came from out-of-state teams like the Chicago Bears and Cubs.

  • Guests had a fun time!

  • Lots of great food and beverage items.  

  • mmmmm.......chocolate shoe with candy inside.....

  • Greg Murray Photography donated a copy of his book "Peanut Butter Dogs".

  • A very popular item...the self-cleaning litter box.

  • Lots of great dog related items, such as a training course from Darwin Dogs.  

  • This "dog basket" included a dog bed and gift certificate from Lakewood's own Inn the Doghouse. ITD owner and founder Whitney Callahan coined the name "Hair of the Dog" for the first event in 2003. That fundraiser generated the money to build Lakewood Dog Park.

     

  • Friends of the Lakewood Dog Park donated a nice set of goodies. The first "Hair of the Dog" was a fundraiser in 2003 to raise money for the park's construction. FLDP donated the "HOTD" idea to CCLAS in 2005.

  • Kira with Kara Vlash-Lasser, who spent many hours organizing the event.

  • Cat-themed items were quite popular....the Lakewood Animal Shelter has adopted out hundreds of felines over the past 30 plus years.

  • Pet's General, one of the longest-running supporters of CCLAS, donated this cat tree and other items.

  • This was a popular item....it came with...

  • Bunny!

  • Fount, which designs leather accessories, donated.

  • Fount gained fame on "Cleveland Hustles", Lebron's reality TV show from 2016.  

  • Two of the many volunteers that kept things running smoothly.

  • What cat doesn't want to be a youtube star?

  • Guests enjoyed drinks and great food throughout the evening.
