A Day at the Ballpark(s)

LHS baseball hosted Midview for a doubleheader on April 16, 2016.
LHS softball hosted North Olmsted on the same afternoon....here are photos from the day.
I started and ended at the baseball field, and visited the softball game in the middle.

  • LHS Athletic Trainer Jennifer Dix keeps a watchful eye from the baseball dugout.

  • Here's an interesting pre-game stretch.

  • Rangers gather a couple minutes before the game.

  • Coach Mike Ribar gives a pep talk.

  • All in!

  • #19 Right hander Ben Bulchik Ben Bulchik pitched the first game.

  • These next few shots give you a sense of his technique.

  • That's a tablet in Gabe's hand. He's using it to track pitches and the game.

What would Leo Durocher think of computers in the dugout?

  • Ranger players in the dugout during the top of the 1st inning.

  • From the semi-shadows, Coach Ribar keeps a close eye on his defense.

  • #15 Creek Miller at the plate

  • Miller took a big cut at this one.

  • Bolchik pitching to Midview

  • Creek Miller had his own rooting section. Addison Miller (left) is his sister, and Jamie Verda (right) is his girlfriend. Addison, who attends Garfield Middle School, operated the scoreboard during the first game.

  • #11 Aaron Larkowsky

  • A big swing by Aaron

  • Catcher Kyle Carlton at the plate

  • Carlton fouls one off

  • After 5 innings of baseball, I shifted to the LHS softball game at Harding Middle School. Here is Coach Steve Moravcik filling out the lineup card.

  • The Ranger softball team posed for a pre-game photo.

When asked their thoughts, they responded "We want more fans!"

  • Coach hits some balls during infield practice.

  • Players gather a few minutes before the game.

  • Lineup cards are exchanged.

  • The umpires and coaches review the ground rules.

  • The team getting psyched up.

  • 1-2-3 Rangers!

  • Sophomore Audra Tuleta was starting pitcher. The next few photos demonstrate the difficult art of fast-pitching a softball.

  • Center fielder Hailey Owens led off for the Rangers.

  • #9 Sydney Clemons at bat. She had a hit, pitched, and played third base during the game.

  • #2 left fielder Katelyn Martin at bat

  • The umpire not only called a good game, but she kept the mood light with humor during the game.

  • #11 Audra Tuleta at the plate.

  • Tuleta had a double during the second inning.

  • Here Tuleta fouls one off.

  • #14 Maggie Soneson at the plate.

  • Maggie had a busy day...she started the game as catcher, finished it as the pitcher.

  • #8 Claire Hylton at the plate.

  • Hylton, the team's shortstop, fouls off this pitch

  • #4 Jackie Burdette at the plate.

  • Burdette plays second base for the Rangers.

  • Jackie take a big cut at this one...but unfortunately the ball is in the catcher's mitt.

  • Fair or foul? Burdette sends one down the line.

  • North Olmsted got baserunners in the third inning, so Coach and infielders huddle for some strategy.

  • #12 Courtney Moran at bat.

  • Moran plays first base for the Rangers

  • #17 Stephanie Harkenrider at bat

  • Harkenrider, the team's right fielder, hit this one towards left field.

  • Owens takes a big cut during her second at-bat.

  • Clemons second at-bat

  • Clemons tries to beat out this grounder.

  • The Ranger roster is very versatile. During the 5th inning, catcher Maggie Soneson went in to pitch due to an injury. Starting pitcher Audra Tutela can be seen here putting on the catching gear.

  • Maggie Soneson in the circle. She closed out the game.

  • A look at the Ranger dugout....they kept the chatter going all game.

  • Jackie Burdette slides home in the 5th inning.

  • She's safe!

  • Owens switched to the left side in the 5th inning.

  • Post game handshakes.

  • The Rangers leave the field after a tough loss to North Olmsted.

  • I returned to the baseball diamond, where the Rangers trailed Midview 3-1 in the 6th. Their comeback fell short, losing the game. Here is the post-game handshake.

  • Virgil is everywhere!

  • Coach Ribar speaks to the team after the game.
