Congratulations to the Lakewood High School Symphonic Mixed Choir! In a recent state competition, they received unanimous superior (I) ratings from 4 professional adjudicators. The state-level Ohio Music Educators Association competition was held at Highland High School.
The Symphonic Mixed Choir entered the competition in Class AA, the most difficult level a choir can enter. The literature (music) required to be performed at that level is highly sophisticated, and generally divided into 6 to 8 parts within the choir.
Comments from the judges in the performance room included, "A truly great quality, Fantastic! Lovely sound." After the choir performed on stage for 3 adjudicators, they were led to a different performing room where they were required to sight-sing a piece of music they had not seen before, without piano accompaniment. Mrs. Girton, the sightreading judge, told the choir that they were the last group she would hear to sing the AA sightreading piece, and now she had finally heard it sung correctly.
Congratulations are also extended to the Symphonic Treble Choir who received unanimous "Outstanding" (II) ratings from their judges at the same event. Their comments included, "Excellent work with balance and blend – fine tone. Beautiful tone, a really nice quality." Both choirs worked very hard in preparation for this adjudicated event, a job well-done by these music students and their teacher, Dr. Lisa Hanson.
