The City of Lakewood will celebrate Emergency Medical Services Week from May 18-24, 2008 in conjunction with the national celebration. EMS Week celebrates EMS providers who serve their communities to not only save lives, but to educate the public in areas of injury prevention and healthy living. This year's theme, "Your Life is Our Mission" exemplifies the excellent services provided every day, under any circumstances, by Lakewood emergency medical personnel.
To celebrate EMS Week, paramedics and emergency medical technicians from the Lakewood Fire Department are focusing on the importance of healthy living. During the week, they will distribute literature throughout the community when they respond to emergency calls, and give tips on healthy eating and exercise. Adults will receive handy blood pressure record keepers that can be kept in a purse or wallet, and children will get Junior Paramedic stickers, pencils, EMT plastic helmets, educational activity books, and temporary tattoos.
