As many of you know, the "Right to Vote" committee began collecting signatures about four weeks ago to put a charter amendment on the November ballot.
The Charter Amendment would give Lakewood citizens a voice in future decisions to close or sell the hospital.
I'm happy to announce that over 2,300 signatures have been collected, and will be sent to City Council and the Board of Elections for approval.
The actual number required was fewer than 1,300 signatures, so there should be sufficient signatures to meet the minimum.
I want to thank the relatively small group of volunteers that made this happen. They worked long and hard going door-to-door in the August heat.
Thanks also to the volunteers who organized the drive, making sure as many streets as possible were covered.
I am very proud to be part of this town....folks from all walks of life have come together. Signers came from all political, ethnic, ideological, geographic, economic, and age groups.
We are working to make a better future, one that includes our hospital.
Thank you volunteers!
Thank you signers!
Thank you Lakewood!
