The latest map from the County Health Board would indicate Lakewood cases have doubled in a week.

6 jail inmates testing positive, 2 under suspicion.

Friday County Briefing County Health Update: _04.03.2020

Armond Budish
6 jail inmates testing positive, 2 under suspicion. “We are prepared to handle this.” All in one pod, they are being cared for, none are critical. We have been slowly reducing the jail population by over 50%.

Screening all inmates and all officers that come into the jail No visitation is allowed. Some of these inmates have been in here since September 2019. The last one in February. We do not believe that this originated with any of them.

“COVID-19 is everywhere. It is impossible to escape this terrible disease.”

The county is “reaching out for more equipment for months, well weeks,” “We have already received items from dentists, vets, restaurant workers. We have spent over $1 million so far.”

The Missing Lakewood Health Department

I'm going to emphasize one obvious point. The City of Lakewood no longer has a Department of Health.

Lakewood is the third largest city in the county.

We have no Department of Health.

Millions of dollars in acute hospital charity care ($7M a year) were abandoned by the previous administration in the liquidation and demolition of Lakewood Hospital.

Tens of millions of healthcare dollars were floated over to various not-for-profit private entities during that liquidation and demolition.

Now, in a pandemic situation Lakewood has:

No health department;

No acute care hospital;

No hospital beds;

No ICU beds;

No equipment, and

No funds.
