Neigbhorhood News Mayoral Vetting Process?

Postby Jim O'Bryan » Wed Oct 28, 2015 1:38 pm

This past week we saw the emergence of the new "community paper" with ZERO accountability, and even less information over to who runs it. Through one of his friends we found out it was the product of ex-Lakewood Mayor Ed FitzGerald, at least on the check that paid the bill. They picked two slates, one in Lakewood and the Other in Brooklyn. Though no one is aware of any vetting process the candidates or for that matter the advertisers(same in both papers) was ever done or made public at least.

The Lakewood Observer does not back candidates, instead being impartial and letting candidates, friends and supporters define the issues and who to vote for. Neighborhood News likes backing candidates, and hit another snag right out of the box!

For the Brooklyn Mayor's race, possibly based on the same criteria they used for the Lakewood's Mayor'$ Race, they chose Scott Clausen to lead the City of Brooklyn.

From Cleveland.com - http://www.cleveland.com/brooklyn/index.ssf/2015/10/brooklyn_law_director_myoral_c.html
Brooklyn law director, mayoral candidate arrested during drug bust
Brooklyn Law Director and mayoral candidate Scott Claussen faces drug charges after a bust Monday in Seven Hills,
police said.
Claussen, 40, was one of three people arrested at a Broadview Road house...

I know Mayor Summers does not do drugs, rarely drinks.

I am merely looking at the Vetting process and why the Observer will not tell you how to vote, but our members will!

Jim,

Do you know if Fitz used his own money, or did he use the County's money that was allegedly missing when he left office? :D

The title of the thread should be NEOMG/PD Vetting Process....I don't see what the "fake paper" has to do with this.

The so called "major daily" paper in town endorses mayors that support the major institutions in town.
In this case, the Cleveland Clinic.
The PD is also a MAJOR voice in favor of regionalization. They support the Mayor's effort to destroy the hospital and the Observer.
Those are two of the institutions that make Lakewood unique.

Not long ago Brett Larkin reiterated his disappointment that our library was not absorbed into the County system.
If the hospital and Observer go, that might be next on the agenda.

Good news!

The City of Lakewood plans to close and tear down the Lakewood Public Library and replace it with a bookmobile run by the Cuyahoga County Public Library.

The CCPL bookmobile will provide Lakewood residents with access to a limited number of printed books and magazines, as well as access to the CCPL's entire digital library of books and magazines.

"This is good news for our community and a great first step in transforming the literacy services available in our city," Mayor Mike Summers said. "We are delighted to maintain this important hub in our downtown and know it will be an important asset to the city's continued revitalization."

Under the terms proposed in an agreement with the city, the city will continue to own a portion of the current library site, with the remainder of the property, including all of the Lakewood Public Library's books, magazines, videos, music, and all other personal property and financial assets being transferred to the CCPL.

Summer's further explained that "the way we read is changing" because "no one actually reads books anymore, everyone is always on their iPad or Kindle."

The new bookmobile will provide Lakewood residents "with a brand new state of the art library while at the same time freeing up valuable downtown real estate for development," explained Summers. "This is absolutely a library," he made sure to reiterate.

When asked who was interested in developing the library property Summers was unable to provide a response, but did state that he is encouraging people to "think big!" about what can be done at the site.

A preliminary drawing of the new Lakewood library is below:

Sean Koran owns the Internet today!

If only every person in Lakewood could see that post. I've put it on my FB and hope others do, as well.

Summers/LHA/CCF - take a good look. TRUTH.

Since Summers wants to make us the healthiest city in America, maybe we could get Jay Foran to plan a dome for the book mobile. You can stop at the bar of your choice and smoke your E-cigs, then come to the book mobile and jump up and down and jog in place while you pick out your books.
