Monarch Butterfly.

They must be migrating. I am seeing them everywhere. While standing on the Detroit Superior Bridge this
past weekend there were about 3 butterflies a minute flying over. Mostly in groups of two.

This was from the yard in Lakewood, while waiting for a friend.

I love standing on the cliffs of the Emerald Canyon and look down and see Herons working the shallow pools
looking for fish or the occasional crawfish or frog.

They are even more amazing to see flying from above. They are almost prehistoric in their mannerisms.

Just wondering, Jim ... how do you prepare them? Breaded and deep fried? Or do you make a butterfly pâté and serve it with little sandwiches with crust cut off?

Peter

Just like a cow. You do not eat them, you milk them, for the most wonderful honey butter there is.

While not in Lakewood, with three of them at Edgewater, and two more at Burke Lakefront, the chances of some at Clifton Park Beach has to be pretty high. Visitors from the north!

But with three snowy owls within sight but not my lens the hardcore birders were going nuts over this little guy.

Woke up yesterday to a scene from Hitchcock's "The Birds.!"

For a couple hours they just kept coming and coming and coming!

Meanwhile a couple blocks away! She's back!

I don't know if this should technically be in the "Fauna" thread as it is only a picture of bird tracks.

I think they're sparrow prints. Whatever birds they are, are hopping right up to our back deck
door in search of the bread crusts (still cut from my 8 year old's peanut butter sandwiches)
that we put there every day.

Another photo of a bird that I don't have is a picture of the ROBIN! I saw today on Andrews. Flying up the Drug Mart non-pedestrian driveway in a swirl of snow, I swear. So I think that means it's Spring.
