WILLIAM (BILL) HIXSON (93), known by many as “Mr. Christmas,” passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on December 29th.

Bill was a West Tech High School graduate, Korean War Veteran, world-renowned artist, floral designer, and specialty retail business owner of Hixson’s Inc. for nearly 70 years in Lakewood, Ohio.

Bill made Hixson’s Flower Barn a true staple of Northern Ohio, not selling things, but selling memories. Telling stories to each generation of valued family customers over the decades. He would have people laughing then crying, then smiling again. He had an intuition about people and could change their mood with his kind words and his smile.

Bill Hixson was dedicated, loyal to a fault, and hard working-up to his last breath. The man had class, and would be spotted nearly daily in his store wearing his suit and tie. But that never stopped him from getting his hands dirty with hard work. An amazing influential leader and motivator, his ideas were brilliant and unique. Bill was instrumental in the development of Oasis, revolutionizing the floral industry. Beloved around the globe, he taught thousands western floral design in Japan, and coast to coast here in the U.S., Bill was called upon by 7 different Presidents to help decorate the White House and was key in starting Bridal Shows in Cleveland in the late 60's.

William is survived by his sister-in-law Laurel Hixson and her children. He leaves behind his business, an incredible staff at Hixson’s Inc, and close friends who are like family. He is predeceased in death by his parents (Wyley Sr. and Kathryn), his brother Wyley, and the love of his life and business partner Eunice Sowiak. Bill's child-like heart and brilliant imagination will continue living through all that were blessed with the opportunity of knowing him.

A private memorial will be held at a future date per Bill's wishes .
