January 11, 1971 - The Ohio State House - Inauguration of John J. Gilligan - Ohio Governor

This one required a little research. The white band across the photograph is the top of the tent that sheltered the dignitaries that attended.

It is worthy of note that John Gilligan's daughter Kathleen was elected Governor of Kansas in 2002.

Taking The Clock Back Even Further - 1960

In 1960, Massachusetts' U. S. Senator John F. Kennedy was the Democratic Party nominee for President.

On September 27, 1960, he gave a campaign speech in Mansfield, Ohio. (This image is from a scrapbook clipping of a Mansfield News Journal photograph of that event).

Standing far back and deep in this crowd was a 7 year-old boy so crowded by adults that he could only hear Kennedy speak, not see him.

Still vivid to me after 60 years...

A "Reveal"

When I began this Deck essay, I thought it would just be a loose ramble across some ideas and concepts that I had come through in my own experiences in public service.

But frankly, I had quite a surprise this week!

Going through some family papers, I found other newspaper clippings from 1960 where I learned for the first time that my father (Don Kindt) was the chairman of the committee that organized this Kennedy for President rally in Mansfield.
