Development On Hospital Site Discussed Tonight at Meeting of the Whole

Postby Betsy Voinovich » Mon Apr 27, 2020 9:24 am

From Councilman Jason Shachner's Ward 2 Newsletter:

Mayor George notified Council that Carnegie Management and Development Corporation, the developer that was developing the former Lakewood Hospital site, has taken the position that it has terminated the Development and Use Agreement. Since receiving this report from Mayor George, I have diligently sought related materials to garner a better understanding of how we arrived at this point. We will be discussing the One Lakewood Place development in greater detail at the Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday, April 26th at 6:30 PM.

I think that all of the meetings are being held virtually and are being streamed online for public access. This would be a good one to watch.

Thank you Councilman Shachner for your communication.

So as not to catch anyone off-guard, I want to say that I do anticipate a motion to enter executive session at some point in this meeting. I dislike entering executive session, but tonight's conversation will likely pertain to both contract negotiations with a third party, as well as potential litigation to which the city may be a party, and we have an obligation to protect the taxpayers' interests by not broadcasting our deliberation.
