Potential Lakewood Lawsuit?

The essence of this lawsuit bears striking resemblance to a similar situation here in Lakewood.

A Parma administrative official, acting with approval of the school superintendent, frequently posted city and school business and announcements on social media. This woman then blocked several residents who responded to, or initiated posts, that were critical of the city, schools, or its administration.

The lawyer filing suit on behalf of the blocked resident stated:

He said that even if Holtzman is using her personal account for her job, it violates Sebastian’s free-speech rights to block her because Holtzman “now uses it as a means to disseminate official school information.”

Sound familiar?

Sorry, can’t claim it’s your “personal” account!

Maybe this will spur some of the blocked residents here to action!

And I hope it resonates with council when they choose a replacement for Meghan George’s seat.

From the Knight First Amendment Institute:

I have discussed this issue previously on the DECK.

There is probably a reasonable basis for an affected resident to bring a First Amendment case in Lakewood on similar grounds in Federal District Court.
