Real Terror On Manor Park

Postby Jim O'Bryan » Fri Nov 01, 2019 10:18 am

Last night as Halloween was kicking off, the wind was kicking up. Normally not a huge deal, but this came after a day of rain.

With wind gusts over 60 mph, trick-or-treaters hit the street. A person can no longer stand up at 80mph+ winds.

Many cities called off, or postponed Halloween, yet the brave children of Lakewood continued on with their life and death march for "Smarties," "Tootsie-Rolls," and "Paydays."

Suddenly a flicker of lights, and power off. All throughout Manor Park, Mirl, Clifton etc. Tree into wires poles breaking.

Image
The entire area was locked down, and roped off.

Snapped off from the top of a pole.

Image
A many hundred pound transformer box falls to the ground landing feet from the sidewalk, in a driveway.

Image
Boy that would have hurt.

Image
The top 1/4 of the pole never hit the ground, instead hovering 12' above the sidewalk.

Power lines down, and the street closed off.

Thankfully no one was injured to our knowledge, and Lakewood Police and Fire had the space cordoned off for safety.

That pole does not look seaworthy. Wonder how must of the electric infrastructure is like this?

This is a major problem across America, not just here.

At a time we should be putting wires underground, the cost to do so is 30 times what it is above ground.

The next 30 years will be very interesting.

To report in, the power was out north of Kauffman Park, as well.
