Postby Jim O'Bryan » Mon Sep 10, 2018 12:51 pm

Each year in and around the first week of September, the mass Monarch Butterfly Migration. We are lucky here on the NorthCoast. After flying across Lake Erie on their way to Mexico, the butterflies mass for the evening and in the rain to rest. Taking off at the crack of dawn and heading south.

If you go down to Lakewood Park, Clifton Beach nearly any place along the shoreline, you can see them mass.

Please leave them alone, do not shake or scare them, they are resting up and recovering from the long flight across the lake.

Over the next couple days they will grab what nourishment they can on their way south.

This is the first year they are back to massing, as three years ago a hurricane killed millions of them.

With three big hurricanes headed towards the Gulf of Mexico, this could be the last big massing in awhile.

Go down to the Lake, take the kids, and see one of the amazing moments of nature, the migration of the Monarch Butterflies!
