Will Jay Carson & the Lakewood GOP Disown Trump?

Postby Michael Deneen » Fri Jul 20, 2018 6:04 pm

We all saw Trump's treasonous performance this week in Helsinki, as well as his laughable attempts to backpedal once he returned stateside. (His explanation wasn't totally not terrible)
The "Party of Reagan" is now officially "The Russia Party". Some Republicans across the country have repudiated Trump, but I haven't seen or heard anything locally.

The "Lakewood Republican Club" has refused to disavow Trump since the beginning....which has pretty much cemented that group to permanent irrelevancy. The Republican brand was already poisonous in Lakewood (hence the shutdown of LRO a few years ago)…..the new group's failure to admonish Trump only perpetuates local disdain for the GOP brand.

Jay Carson, the most prominent GOP candidate in recent years, has also been quiet on Trump.
Will he have the guts to criticize Trump and potentially alienate conservative hardliners? That would likely boost his value among Lakewood voters, particularly among the Anti-Hospital so-called "Democrats" that supported Bullock in the primary.
Or will Carson continue to quietly endorse Trump and his policies, sticking to his principles and thereby guaranteeing a loss in November?

Only time will tell......

I wonder if Putin will bring Lenin's body and put it in a new mausoleum on the Mall. They want to talk about peace in Syria. Did Trump ask about Putin bombing hospitals there? I suppose Carson is down with that as it's getting rid of outmoded facilities like the one in Lakewood.

Good one Dan!

Meanwhile, birds of a feather don't criticize each other. Not good for bidness.

They could knock down the Newseum and use that space for Lenin's Tomb, DC. Free speech and the First Amendment are changing just like healthcare in Lakewood. Right?

Yes, let’s remember Jay Carson was actively involved in helping to bring an end to Lakewood Hospital AND his client and law firm were the principals in a SLAPP suit against the Observer in an attempt to squelch free speech and First Amendment rights.

Again, is this the kind of guy you want to send to Columbus yo represent us?

Apparently Jay Carson likes destroying more than the “little guy,” - he likes destroying animals, especially endangered species. He’s totally in agreement with the Trump administration’s attempt to gut the Endangered Species Act to make it more “business friendly,” meaning economics and business interests will carry more weight than scientific and environmental concerns.

Here’s the link to his last podcast where he states his opinion on the Trump changes to the Endangered Species Act - “they’re a much-needed corrective to a policy that’s unnecessarily hampered economic growth.”

Carson is a Trump guy through and through.

We can’t afford to have someone like him “representing us in Ohio.”

The concept of "the Overton Window" has been the object of some forceful criticism.

Nonetheless, I believe there is significance to the central proposition that, broadly speaking, communities accept a certain range of ideas as "valid opinions" at any given time, but that this range can shift one way or another.

I think the concept may be relevant here, by intention or otherwise.

I encourage everyone who sees the Endangered Species Act as positive, and "destroying the little guy" as reprehensible, to take nothing for granted. If you believe in a Lakewood of fairness, empathy, and sustainability, please support the candidate who will do his best for these values: Michael J. Skindell.

The community's response to a choice like this may matter years from now, not just for 24 months.

Carson’s far right stances are out of the norm for Lakewood.

Maybe that’s why he can’t seem to get many followers on his Facebook campaign page.
