Gangs(Rafter) Stopping Cars In Metro Park This Weekend

Postby Jim O'Bryan » Mon Jan 15, 2018 9:32 am

This past weekend many cars were stopped in Metro Parks' Emerald Canyon just hundreds of feet from the Lakewood Dog Park, approached, and given a good talking to. This happened for nearly an hour in in one instance. I myself witnessed it and came back 4 times making sure what I saw was real, and finally filmed it.

Gangs of turkeys are actually called a "rafter."

Look at the photos, watch the video!

"You looking at something?"

sent to me by Judy Csia Szentkirályi, who had also witnessed the turkeys.

I called a friend D. Schilling who lives in Rocky River near the Dog Park and he mentioned, "We have a group 7 or 8 turkeys that get pretty nasty. The mailman is afraid to deliver mail to some of us as they come out and attack him"

Eventually a man tried to appease them by offering them food off to the side of the road. They ignored it.

But finally headed up the hill.

Probably to go after one of the largest deer herds I have seen in Metro Parks, over 20 deer that I counted.

I suppose cold weather and snow brought them out.

Drive safe, be safe.

That is really a shame Jim. Sometimes wildlife gets stuck in the wrong place. What about catch and release? Too costly?

Unfortunately, as we found out with the Fox trapped in a snare for a coyote, catch and release is not part of their program.

I would agree, that is it terrible news.
