Got my new Lakewood tax bill

Postby Bryan Schwegler » Thu Dec 22, 2005 9:46 pm

And I have to say I'm disgusted that there is no option to pay online. I would think with this new state of the art system we're forking out too much money for that we'd have some kind of online filing and payment system with it.

It's sad to think that we're taking a step backwards by leaving RITA...

RITA

In house collections will cost the City more than RITA.

The RITA program is a superior program that offers on line payment and on line filing options.

The Finance Director, Vic Nogalo, thinks that an in house program will collect more income tax money than RITA. He plans on instituting programs that will catch people who move into the City without informing RITA. One plan is to require landlords to report new tenants to the City.

I don't think the extra costs will be covered by new money collected by the City. The only certainty is the extra cost.

However, Mr. Nogalo is a sharp guy and is closer to the problem than I am. In any case the City can return to RITA at a later date if the in house program does not perform up to expectations.

On the other hand I have never known a bureaucracy to get smaller just because the program does not work.

I got my income tax bill AND my property tax bill on the same day.

Today I got my gas bill.

No wonder everyone is moving to the south and west. :(

Grace

Always glad to see your name pop up. Hope the family is doing well this "holiday" season.

My gas bill floored me.

Over the summer and fall there were several discussions on this board regarding the pros and cons of regionalism.
I do not know if this new tax bill system is part of the "pros" or the "cons".
I'm sure their are some bugs to be worked out as there is with any new system.
I think we should wait and see if improvements are made in the future before complaining about a brand new system.
