"How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives." -- Annie Dillard (1945-)

Upcoming Events

Sunday, April 25
SUNDAY WITH THE FRIENDS: UZIZI

Most alternative rock bands don’t come with a twelve-piece choir. Fewer still follow their musical roots back to the Renaissance. Director Craig Matis bends Civil War-era shape-note singing around his own poetic vision of the power of primitive harmonic forces and the simple joy of singing.
2:00 p.m. in the Main Library Auditorium

Tuesday, April 27
FAMILY MATTERS:
HOSPICE OF THE WESTERN RESERVE: COURAGE IN CONVERSATION

The hardest decisions to make are often the ones that matter most. Cara Turner from the Hospice of the Western Reserve offers advice on discussing future medical care with our loved ones and walks us through what these decisions entail. A free guide including essential legal documents will be provided to all attendees.
7:00 p.m. in the Main Library Auditorium

Saturday, May 1
BACK TO THE MOVIES: Vintage Hitchcock
Blackmail (1929) Directed by Alfred Hitchcock Not Rated

This is Hitchcock’s (and England’s) first talking picture. Prefiguring Grace Kelly in Dial M for Murder, Anny Ondra reaches for a sharp object as she is being assaulted and kills her attacker. Afraid to inform the police, she flees the scene. Unfortunately, someone has witnessed the incident and tries to score some blackmail loot. Listen closely for Hitchcock’s ingenious use of sound, used to accentuate a guilty conscience.
6:00 p.m. in the Main Library Auditorium

Sunday, May 2
SUNDAY WITH THE FRIENDS: MAY DAY TRIBUTE: Songs of Passion and Romance

The ancient rites of spring celebration inspire this afternoon of jazz and American songbook standards. Earthy jazz vocalist Laura Varcho and virtuoso double bassist Bryan Thomas wend their way down the flower strewn path of love with all its many turnings.
2:00 p.m. in the Main Library Auditorium
