I bet a dollar to a donut when President Obama read this he was nodding in agreement:

Cap and Trade is the culmination of much intellectual dishonesty. Like when astronomers tried contriving elaborate models to 'prove' the sun and stars revolved around Earth. Well after Galileo.

Cap and Trade is an enormous Swindle. Like when Enron lobbied for just the right "deregulation" of electrical utilities in California to totally gouge California customers. Or when Iceland decided to deregulate and privatize its banks. or savings and loan deregulation in the era of mortgage-backed securities and leveraged buyouts and reaganomics.

The U.S. would use less oil and coal if we still had traditional american Tariffs.

China would use much less oil and coal if we still had traditional American Tariffs.

There was plenty enough of trade in the days of tariffs.

Today's Republicans are the party of outsourcing. The goal is to make an enormous fortune outsourcing. or get product endorsing deals from the folks who made enormous fortunes outsourcing. it is alright: it provides cheap merchandise to fill the mcmansion's of super-subsidized sprawl. The richest family in America, the Waltons, got rich through sinning.

The top of the pyramid of Neo-Cons are the outsourcers and globalists. the base of the pyramid are sunbelters. We are simply having fun liquidating the value of our currency built up by moderate protectionism, moderate isolation, and the good fortune of stumbling into half a continent unencumbered by history and old money families.

China will let its currency rise in value as its wont for oil imports, wood, and agricultural commodities rise. This will drastically increase the cost of oil imports to the U.S. The U.S. will export highly-subsidized corn and soybeans to China. We will have to replace high school teachers with masters degrees with illegal immigrants to teach the kids how to work as farm laborers on giant corporate farms.

Or in this case Fascist.

So the new philosophy of conservatism is "anything I don't like I call Fascism. Or Socialism."?

I am pretty sure we are throwing the word fascist around a bit to much. I am not a history major but I am pretty sure that fascist governments kill a lot of people.

On second thought we do senselessly kill a lot of our own people in the pursuit of oil... errr.... freedom.

Romney's health care in Massachusetts is failing and McCain is not exactly a paragon of conservatism, so anyone who holds them up as examples does not understand.

1. Fascist is thrown around too much, I agree.
2. I was almost positive that there were some 'benevolent fascist' regimes, but I can't find anything to back that up.
3. That whole oil thing...that was working really well last summer, wasn't it? That argument doesn't and never has held water.

2. Spain under Franco. Chile under Pinochet. Iran under the Shah. Cherokee under Jackson. Guatemala under Armas. The Dominican Republic under Trujillo. the Republic of Texas under Lamar. at least, in terms of state sponsored murder, torture, and imprisonment against the population as a means of control. but no nation is perfect. No one has put more Americans in prison than Republican Drug laws.

3.the oil argument worked during the first Gulf War. and the Second Gulf War. And when the Iraqis asked Ambassador April Glaspie for permission to invade Kuwait. The cold war was over without a shot having been fired. middle aged chickenhawk politicians needed a chance to live up to their perceptions of John Wayne and the Greatest Generation. at least, vicariously. 9/11 was perpetuated by rich bored saudi college kids.
Saudi Arabia is sort of like Texas and Alaska: when there is a lot of government money and oil money coming in, weird conservative movements gain popularity. In Iraq it would have been better to take the same approach we took with Apartheid South Africa: just keep waiting.
