I haven't had that problem - maybe you have a piece of spyware/adware on your computer?

I would say David is right. There is nothing on the Deck that should be causing that. You should look into some anti-virus / malware software A good place to start would be Avast They offer a free home use version that has a nice boot time scan option.

Also, maybe it is time to look into working from home... can not beat the money and you get to listen to bad rap music all day!! ;-)

The pop-ups could also be coming from the site you visited right before coming to the Deck. Lots of sites now throw up "exit" pop-ups if you don't have them blocked.

John

Maybe that is what you told Jill when she walked in, but it is not from us.

The Observers just walked away from a lucrative deal, as the punchline was giving up
email, and allowing pop-ups.

The Clinic and a couple others have lobbied many times for ads and banners on our site
only for us to turn it down and say no thank you. If you notice we do not do endless
email blasts telling you how cool we are, or what award we just won. No please for
money or donations. We could, but we value your membership and your time.

We even designed the site to not take much ink to print, for those that print pages.

This is about delivering news and views without the interruptions.

I have never seen pop-up ads here. I think you may want to run spyware checks, as they said.

There are some free ones out there, I prefer Spybot Search and Destroy:

I run 3 different malware programs pretty often and the ads never show anywhere except on the LO deck, including this time; "Welcome to the Lakewood Observer, you are the one millionth visitor!" "click here for your prize".
No biggie,just wondering

"funny, but ever since the day I wrote this post the pop-ups have stopped.
very, very strange since they had been appearing ONLY when I open the deck and have been for the past few weeks.......and I am 100% not a conspiracy theorist.......

Malware can "identify" the website you look at and in some cases your location based on IP.

As explained in this webcomic:
