LHS Named Among Best High Schools By U.S. News

Lakewood High School has been named one of U.S. News & World Report's Best High Schools and a Bronze Medalist for 2018. The magazine awards Gold, Silver and Bronze medals according to college readiness, math and reading scores and graduation rates.

Overall, the nation's high schools are scored on state proficiency standards, performance of historically underserved student groups, students’ participation and performance on Advanced Placement (AP) tests and graduation rates. More than 20,000 public schools were evaluated and the schools scoring in the top 30% overall make the list. Lakewood High was ranked 134th in the state (up from 167 from last year), which falls in the top 20% of the 822 Ohio schools awarded medals.

“We are grateful for this recognition,” said LHS Principal Keith Ahearn, “however, we also feel that Lakewood High’s quality of education and student success is measured by much more than the criteria used to determine this award.” Ahearn continued: “This award recognizes our commitment to providing rigorous coursework and the necessary supports for our most vulnerable students to succeed and for all our students to graduate. For that, we are proud.”
