When my oldest child was a baby I lived in the projects that had just been renovated on W. Blvd. They run from Detroit to Madison and they were really nice. Two years down the road, not so nice and I didn't feel safe. We moved. That was well over 30 years ago.
Today I was driving down Madison and saw a big sign that said "Blvd. Terrace Apt. - Historic Landmark Designation".
Huh?

Maybe they had once been private sector apartment buildings.
Or it is a marketing makeover. If my memory is correct, those are the buildings where Officer Clark was shot to death a few years ago.
In the early to mid 1980s I used to walk past them to get to the Cudell swimming pool and the Rapid Station.

They were private sector until 1972, my Uncle had lived there. The building were fallng apart so Harvey Oppman got a deal, got HUD money and did massive renovation with the cheapest stuff he could fine. The apartments stayed nice if you were gentle with them My place was beautiful by the time I finished putting it together.
By the second year and had a guy cut my screen and I woke up with him standing next to my with a stupid idea. That lasted a minute. I moved a week later and from what I understand that stuff kept escalating.
Sad.
