Free Read Aloud and Art Activity for kids!
10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
September 25th at 10am, local author, David YayGrr, will be reading his new book, Nikki Durant and the Terrible Can't at Play Grounds Cafe in Lakewood, OH. Join us at 10am for an author-led read aloud and activity. This rhyming book is excellent for kids of all ages and will be accompanied by a short art project where children will be able to come up with their own imaginary monsters. Plus, ask a real author any questions you have about what it's like to publish a book and where he gets his inspiration!

The book, Nikki Durant and the Terrible Can't is about one little girl who decides to take off for THERE (.... "it maybe tough, but she didn't care"). Along her journey she meets some fantastical monsters including some talking trees, a stomping Moeleet, and, of course, the Terrible Can't. In the end, little Nikki finds the strength and determination to prevail.

David Yeager wrote this story, along with many others, shortly after his daughter was born. The story was inspired by values he wanted to instill in his own child - a sense of confidence, bravery and the ability to overcome any obstacles that got in her way. 30 years later, she grew up and illustrated the book herself so kids everywhere could learn those same lessons she was taught as a little girl.

100% of the profit from book sales are donated to charity. Books will be available for purchase at Play Grounds Cafe before and after the read aloud and are also available at davidyaygrrbooks.com.

If you would like to do a similar activity in your classroom, feel free to contact Parma resident, David Yeager (davidyaygrrbooks@gmail.com) for read alouds at your school and/or a copy of Nikki Durant and the Terrible Can't lesson plans for 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students.
