NYC based folk-noir duo, Charming Disaster, returns to the good goat gallery
6:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Brooklyn, NY based goth-folk duo Charming Disaster will perform in Cleveland on May 23, bringing their whimsically macabre duets inspired by love, death, true crime, ancient mythology, and the occult to Lakewood's Good Goat Gallery. The playfully dark duo are touring in advance of the release of their third album, SPELLS + RITUALS. Pre-release copies of the album will be available at the show. Doors open at 6pm.

They will share the bill with local vaudeville duo Pinch & Squeal, whose modern take on old-time comedic performance, from music to juggling to naughty jokes, has made them a longstanding Cleveland favorite in the circus and burlesque scene. Admission is $13

"Charming Disaster balances smart pop songs against a confident stage presence, sort of a swagger, that suggest the two people out front are destined for great things...these people are overflowing with musical ideas that simply defy categorization." –The Vinyl Anachronist

Charming Disaster’s storytelling songs explore various kinds of trouble two people can get into, combining vocal harmonies and clever lyrics with ukulele, guitar, and virtuosic foot percussion to explore dark narratives and characters with a playful sensibility. Their songs take on themes like love, death, crime, ancient mythology, and the occult, playing out against a backdrop of nightclubs, car chases, circus tents, the afterlife, and beyond. A musical duo based in Brooklyn, NY, formed in 2012 by singer/songwriters Ellia Bisker and Jeff Morris, Charming Disaster's inspirations include the gothic humor of Edward Gorey and Tim Burton, the noir fiction of Raymond Chandler, the murder ballads of the Americana tradition, and the dramatic flair of the cabaret. They achieved cult status when their paranormal love song “Ghost Story” was featured on the creepy hit podcast Welcome to Night Vale. Since then their theatrical, entertaining live performances have engaged audiences across the United States. SPELLS + RITUALS, releasing on June 7, 2019, is their third full-length album.

Pinch and Squeal — the husband-and-wife duo of Jason and Danielle Tilk — revive vaudeville, the variety shows that dominated American stages a century ago. "We pride ourselves on singing songs you wish you didn't know and jokes you wish you didn't laugh at, and doing really bad magic," says Pinch. That includes "Brand New Key," Melanie's early-'70s novelty hit, and the wink-and-nudge '20s number "Every Night I Bring Her Frankfurter Sandwiches."
