The Lakewood Community Festival 5K Kielbasa Run & 1/2 Mile Children's Fun Run will Be held on Saturday, September 6 at Madison Park. The 5K Run begins at 9:00 AM and the Children's Fun Run begins at 10:00 AM.

Lakewood Community Festival
The 21st annual Lakewood Community Festival is scheduled for Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Madison Park, 13029 Madison Avenue. The festival celebrates community, cultural heritage and families. It is a day of fun and activities for everyone.
The festival will begin at a fast pace with the 5K “Kielbasa Run” at 9:00 a.m. and the ˝ mile Children’s Fun Run at 10:00 a.m. At 11:00 a.m., there will be a Flag Raising Ceremony by various military organizations.
Entertainment, Craft and game booths, pony rides, children’s games, Alpacas from the Starburst Suri Alpaca Ranch,and the Lake Erie Nature Center will all be part of the festivities, as well as a variety of delectable foods including stuffed cabbage, cabbage and noodles, kielbasa and sauerkraut, pizza, French fries and funnel cakes, Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine and other dishes. An assortment of traditional ethnic baked goods and other desserts will be available.
The festival, sponsored by the Lakewood Community Festival, Inc. and the City of Lakewood, is traditionally the last event of the summer. Proceeds from the festival will be donated to various local organizations. In the event of rain, the festival will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2008.

North East Ohio Fair Trade Summit
Fair Trade advocates announce Northeast Ohio’s Bi-annual Fair Trade Summit to take place on Saturday September 6, 2008 at First Church in Oberlin, Ohio. The summit is designed for students and adults who are interested in learning more about Fair Trade and the Fair Trade movement in Ohio.
Fair Trade is an alternative way of doing business – one that builds equitable, long-term partnerships between consumers in North America and producers in developing regions. (Fair Trade Resource Network www.ftrn.org) The summit will allow for discussion of the growth of the Fair Trade Movement and how people can be conscious consumers by choosing to buy Fair Trade food items (coffee, tea, chocolate, fruit), crafts, clothing, and accessories.
Registration will begin at 11:30am with lunch to follow. The summit will open with “Fair Trade 101” at 12:30pm. Afternoon workshops will include sustainability, how to start a fair trade company, United Students for Fair Trade campaigns, how to host a successful fair trade marketplace at your place of worship, and how you can create your own Fair Trade footprint.
Pre-Registration for the summit is preferred by September 1. The suggested donation is $10 or $5 for students.
The summit is sponsored by Ben Franklin/ Mind Fair, Bonner Scholars, First Church UCC in Oberlin, Ginko Gallery & Studio, House of Healing Outreach, INTO, Heartbeats, InterReligious Task Force on Central America, Oberlin College Library, Revive, and Santa Elena Project of Accompaniment.
